Sunday 16th May

It looks an excellent card at Naas tomorrow with something for everyone. I believe we may even see a Royal Ascot winner throughout the day. I will be keeping a particularly close eye on Aidan O Brien's Caravaggio filly Contarelli Chapel who looked the real deal on her debut three weeks ago. From a betting point of view, it is the Group 3 6f contest for three-year-old's, that has grabbed my attention. I am willing to forgive A Case Of You a poor effort last time and I think we are getting a couple of points on his price as a result. In fairness, based on that run, he should be 10/1 but surely that was too bad to be true. Prior to that he looked better than a Group 3 performer, particularly at Dundalk on his reappearance comfortably disposing of Logo Hunter and Mooneista despite giving them 5lb and 10lb respectively. That form was franked a couple of times since. The selection also got the better of current market rival Lipizzaner at the Curragh last season. If he shows his true form I think he wins this with a bit to spare. Any further rain won't be a problem to him as it was soft ground at the Curragh which was arguably his best performance.

1pt win A Case Of You (4/1 BetVictor, Be365, Skybet, 7/2 General) Naas 4.40

1000 Guineas Day

The early signs are that the 2000 Guineas was a very good renewal despite the interrupted preparations for the first Classic of the season. The time was the fastest in the races history and the horses that were expected to run well beforehand fought out the finish. I am sure it will produce plenty of winners throughout the season. Of course the first thought for most people will be the Derby and my initial thought is that ante-post favourite prior to the Guineas, Military March, will find it hard enough to reverse the form with Kameko, who was very strong at the finish. Hopefully Kameko will turn up and we will know for sure in a four weeks time. Moving on to Sunday's action and it looks quite a tricky card, with few standout bets, particularly from a price perspective. The Buckhounds Stakes at 1.50 might be the exception as the Mark Johnston trained Communique  looks a worthy favourite. While the price has contracted throughout the day, I still feel he is worth a bet at anything...
